Hello! Welcome to my blog! I will be using this space to record my hiking trips and share beautiful places that I've been to in my hometown. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do!
Hong Kong is a small and lively city well known for its vibrant and fast paced lifestyle. Every year millions of tourists visit Hong Kong, enjoy their shopping and eating experience and take some glimpse of the city skyline before they leave. However, very few would spend time to discover the beauty of Hong Kong's nature side. Although the city's land size is relatively small and densely populated, we are blessed to have beautiful geographical features such as mountains, beaches and outlying islands. Not to mention with the super convenient transport network, it only takes an hour or so to get to the peaceful countryside!
Today, I am going to share with you a place called Po Pin Chau, situated in Sai Kung, the East side of Hong Kong. As its Chinese name suggests, Po Pin Chau is an island cut away from the mainland (Fa Shan). It was cut away over long years of natural erosion processes and a gigantic sea stack is then formed.

Over looking from the East Dam of High Island Reservoir, you can clearly see the isolating Island that is sharply cut away.

Standing at the edge of the Fa Shan cliff, I could see breathtaking view of the landform. You should definitely spend some moment there to admire nature's exquisite work! I brought a novel with me and sat there for awhile. It was so calming with the sound of splashing sea waves in the background.

The High Island Reservoir is one of Hong Kong's most popular geological sites and has been rated as an UNESCO Global Geopark. Here, you can see spectacular wonders of rock formations like the one in my photos. This special and rare rock composition is called Hexagonal columnar joints. These were formed about 140 million years ago from a number of violent volcanic eruptions.

The nature side of Hong Kong never fails to amaze me. I certainly recommend you to discover the beauty of Hong Kong- we are definitely more than just a shopping and food paradise! :)
